The Spark
Our journey began during the secondary school years when the idea of tutoring was often met with mixed reactions. Our founder recalls a teacher advising against tutoring, urging students to focus on self-study. However, as years passed, the allure of tutoring classes, especially when a crush was also attending, became irresistible.
The tutoring experience, although initiated for whimsical reasons, turned out to be a boon. It was here that the founder discovered the value of focused examination preparation, contrasting with the broader, theory-oriented school curriculum. Despite the fleeting romantic interest, the tutoring classes were a silver lining, accelerating academic progress, and eventually paving the way to university and a successful career in building surveying.
Nurturing the Idea
Fast forward two decades, armed with years of experience in the realm of building surveying, the idea to give back to the community started brewing. Traditional mentoring by a supervisor or counsellor at the workplace or external counsellor was beneficial, but the thought of creating a structured program to aid examination preparation seemed even more promising.
Our founders, who have over 20 years of providing professional training and mentoring experience, initiated the HKIS BS APC SUCCESS online teaching platform. This pioneering initiative embraces the digital learning modalities of the 21st century to overcome geographical and time constraints. In a short span, the platform witnessed burgeoning enrolments, with over a hundred students and a remarkable success rate of over 90%.
The Evolution
In 2023, this endeavour evolved into the Building Surveying Excellence Academy (BSEA) website, an amalgamation of previous educational efforts now organized systematically for a seamless learning experience. With categorized resources tailored to address specific learning needs and the introduction of online CPD courses, as well as our tailored one-to-one consultations, we’ve aimed to alleviate the rigid schedules of conventional counsellor-counsellee learning.
Now, the BSEA website stands as a comprehensive hub for aspiring building surveyors to conveniently access a wealth of learning resources and examination preparation techniques.
